Jay Jamieson Council of Second language Programs in Canada

Canada is the second largest country in the world - offering a multitude Of places to explore and discover. Canada is an attractive, friendly, beautiful and safe place to live. Canadians are sensitive to the cultural needs of students from other countries. You will find us open, patient and willing to make you feel welcome and at home in Canada.

Canada is a bi-lingual nation with two official languages: English and French. Canada has many opportunities for students of every age and background to study English or French. For over a century, Canada's two official languages have been taught by our many fine educational institutions. In addition, for many decades we have been teaching these languages to  students from all parts of the world.

As a result, Canadian universities and colleges have developed a great deal of expertise and experience in the delivery of language training.

The Council of Second Language Programs in Canada (CSLPC/CPLSC) is an association of post secondary institutions offering intensive language training in either French or English as a second language. or both. All members are public institutions recognized by the Ministries of Education in each province.

The principle objectives of the Council are the promotion of the English and French pro- grams of its members - both in Canada and abroad - and the assurance of quality language programs and teaching excellence.

The members conform to the standards of excellence de- fined by the general assembly and supervised by the board of directors. The guidelines of the Council require members to provide a precise description of their programs, an effective means of evaluation, well-trained and qualified teaching personnel as well as a clearly-stated fee structure and refund policy. Choosing a program at a Council of Second Language - Program institution, guarantees an institution of quality and standards of education In Canada.

The range of programs offered by Council members is considerable. Most operate year round. with programs starting at frequent intervals through- out the year. Many operate special intensive programs in the summer.
