Research

Research is a growing focus at Selkirk College. Two years ago, Selkirk College was the only college in Western Canada to receive funding from the Canada Fund for Innovation and the BC Knowledge Fund for its proposal to develop a Geospatial Research Centre. As a result, Selkirk College is poised to become a national leader in the field of geographic information systems.

In partnership with our communities, and the federal and provincial governments, Selkirk College is bringing innovative technology to the Kootenay Boundary region.
Special Initiatives
Interaction with the community is enhanced with community-based learning that includes subjects ranging from recreation to business skills.

The MIR Centre for Peace, located on the Castlegar Campus, is an excellent example of the College's interface with the people and spirit of the Region. The MIR Centre provides physical space for human cultural activity--education, seminars, institutes, community gatherings, artistic expressions--all of which express the common
purpose of more fully understanding and expressing what is meant by cultures of peace. The MIR vision honours the traditional cultures of peace which have existed, and still exist, within our communities---First Nations, Docahobor,
Japanese-Canadian---and at the same time seeks to engage in a larger dialogue with the world.
